3 must have Manhattan Burgers

Written By Leisurely contributor Erica Wrage (@gothamfoodiee)

So. What’s a girl to eat?( Or a guy of course). Personally, I’m in the mood for a burger, and I’m sure so are most. It’s a crowd pleaser. There are soooo many options here in the city, and most of them pretty darn good. I was more than willing to do the leg work for you, and here are three of my favorite burgers on the island of Manhattan.

Let’s get started shall we?

Raoul’s

Raoul’s has been around since the 70’s, and is located on Prince Street in the West Village. It’s traditionally a French restaurant, so the atmosphere is jolly, the decor rustic. Besides the long list of regulars, it’s also a destination spot, being that the rumor of the best burger has traveled far. I second that rumor, and may even call it a fact. The Burger au Poivre is all that and then some. A 7 ounce patty made of a brisket blend, coated au poivre-style, seared in butter, topped with St. Andres cheese, watercress, cornichons and red onions, is possibly made in heaven. The challah bread bun is perhaps proof of that. The kicker is the dip on the side: a cream and cognac sauce au poivre. Unbelievably good.

Nobody Told Me

Yup, I was confused by the name too, and meeting someone at that restaurant can be interesting (in a treasure hunt kinda way). But it’s all worth it. Right in the beginning areas of Harlem on 110th Street, close to Columbia University, you will find this lovely place. I came here, because I heard the drinks were phenomenal, and then I ordered the burger, and I have to say wow. Nobody’s Burger was an excellent surprise. First of all, it’s a double burger, and two patties make life twice as sweet. It is served on a Hawaiian Bun, cheddar cheese and shredded greens. The “secret sauce” is bringing it all together to be an exceptional burger. I absolutely loved it!

Nowon

When you think of burgers, the last thing that comes to your mind is a Korean restaurant. And yet, Nowon in the East Village serves up one of the best. Located on 6th Street between Avenues A and B, you will find their very hip restaurant, serving Korean-American food. I love absolutely everything there, please lock me in the kitchen overnight.

Their Legendary Cheeseburger is prepared with two patties, American cheese, kimchi mayo and bread and butter pickles, bacon is optional. It’s different, but not too different. It has become a go to for young New Yorkers, and I can see why. I recommend you come here with and empty stomach, because besides the must-try burger, you will find so, so many treats on their menu!

There you have it! Report back if you happen to try all 3!

About Gotham Foodie

Hello there, fellow foodies! My name is Erica, I was born and raised in Germany, and moved to the US, New York City to be exact, in July of 1987. I have worked most of my time here in the Big Apple as a bartender, but my true love is food. I cook just about every day, I search for good food everywhere, and pretty much always find it. I don’t consider myself a food critic, I don’t have the culinary background for that kind of expertise. I do however know good food, good chefs and good restaurants. I report back about my culinary adventures, and I choose to leave out my unsatisfactory visits. We have enough negativity in our daily lives, I don’t want to add to that.
